England – Day 05

Woke up early to take a tour offered by Golden Tours to Warwick Castle, visit the birth home of William Shakespeare and walk around the town of Oxford.

We took the underground and made it to the Victoria bus Station, by 8:30 am the tour bus left the station. It took two hours to arrive at Warwick (pronounced Warick).

Since it was Halloween, the castle had special events going on. They had their version of the haunted house but at their dungeon. We started by visiting their castle rooms which had armor and weapons, the family portraits of the family, even a narwhal horn.

One nice thing throughout the castle was that they had wax models doing chores or work like back in those days.

In one of the rooms behind a wall, my son found the upper half of a bloody body. I believe this is an extra from the dungeon decorations.

We went up the tower and got a great view of the town and the surrounding area. We even got to see the trebuchet they have on the grounds.

I would have liked to spend the day here and get to enjoy all the events going on. With the tour, you have too little time to do everything.

At 12:15 PM we met at the bus and headed to Stratford-upon-Avon which took about 45 minutes.

Walking through the birth home of Shakespeare will take you about 30 minutes.

You will have some time to walk the streets of the town, enjoy the architecture and their shops.

We met at the bus at 2:30 pm and arrived at Oxford by 3:40 pm. On this part of the trip, we enjoyed a walking tour for about 40 minutes.

We learned that there is no one single single Oxford University but a collection of colleges specializing in different majors all part of the Oxford University.

We met at the bus at 5:15 pm and headed back to London and arrived around 7:30 pm.

The tour was very nice, but we definitely enjoy more visiting places on our own and not with the tours. You just don’t have enough time to do as much as we would like. Both companies were very good, punctual and I would highly recommend them.

From Victoria, we went back to Borough Marked to try a Spanish tapas restaurant called Lobos. Matt was happy that they had grilled octopus. We ordered a whole range of dishes from squid ink rice to beef cheek. Everything was amazing.
